EPF’S RESPONSE

March 1st, 2010

EPF’s Response:

If a member has more than one nominee and one of the nominees dies during the member’s lifetime, only the portion that was bequeathed to the deceased nominee will be invalid.

Should the member later dies without updating his nomination, the other nominees will receive their portion accordingly. Only the portion that was bequeathed to the deceased nominee will be subject to procedures under ‘EPF savings without nomination’ in which the first priority for the right to claim the member’s savings
goes to the nearest next of kin or the appointed administrator of the deceased member’s estate.

Therefore it is not true that if you, as a member, have named more than one nominee, the entire nomination will be void if one of the nominee dies before you. It
follows however that if you have named only one nominee and he or she dies before you, the nomination will be void unless a new beneficiary is nominated.

• Please note that you don’t have to produce the death certificate of a deceased nominee to change your nomination. You can change/update your nomination
anytime by simply completing a new KWSP 4 (AHL) Form. This will automatically revoke any earlier nomination made.
• The information concerning approaching EPF counter within 3 days to avoid EPF savings being ‘surrendered to Amanah Raya’ if no nomination is made or if
nominee dies at the same time as the member is not true.

Depending on the amount of savings in the member’s account, if there is no nomination the procedure will be as follows:

If member’s EPF savings are less than RM25, 000

The European Commission has just announced an agreement whereby English will be the official language of the European Union rather than German, which was the other possibility.

As part of the negotiations, the British Government conceded that English spelling had some room for improvement and has accepted a 5- year phase-in plan that would become known as “Euro-English”.

In the first year, “s” will replace the soft “c”. Sertainly, this will make the sivil servants jump with joy.

The hard “c” will be dropped in favour of “k”. This should klear up konfusion, and keyboards kan have one less letter.

There will be growing publik enthusiasm in the sekond year when the troublesome “ph” will be replaced with “f”. This will make words like fotograf 20% shorter.

In the 3rd year, publik akseptanse of the new spelling kan be expekted to reach the stage where more komplikated changes are possible.

Governments will enkourage the removal of double letters which have always ben a deterent to akurate speling..

Also, al wil agre that the horibl mes of the silent “e” in the languag is disgrasful and it should go away.

EPF Rules- A MUST READ

February 28th, 2010

The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) is a national social security organization operating through a provident fund scheme in Malaysia. Basically, its a saving for the old age. A small sum will be deducted from a persons’ salary and can be claimed once they have retired. But below information is very important if one fails to follow, his/her’s whole life savings will be ……gone.

If ONE (1) of your Nominees in the EPF Nominees list dies, automatically the whole arrangement (EPF Nominees list) is VOID .. Meaning if, you only put in One (1) name & unfortunately he/she dies before you – automatically EPF will channel your EPF money to trustee of AMANAH RAYA upon your death.

Even though if you have few names in the EPF Nominees list,  – the whole arrangement is VOID & none of the individual names left in the EPF Nominees list will get their portion & automatically EPF will channel your EPF money to trustee of AMANAH RAYA upon your death.

Piece of advice – if any of the your Nominees in the EPF Nominees list dies, please do immediately approach the nearest EPF counter & present the Death Certificate of the individual & register your NEW / LATEST Nominee in the EPF Nominees list + NEW / LATEST percentage .

If, you & the other party (maybe spouse) involved in the same misfortune (accident / illness) that caused death to both yourself / spouse please, please, please alert your siblings / relatives / parents to immediately approach the nearest EPF counter & share the information within 3 days to AVOID all EPF money to be surrendered to trustee of AMANAH RAYA .

Upon surrender to trustee of AMANAH RAYA, your children will have to battle the money thru 3 channels;

Majlis Agama, Pejabat Tanah, Mahkamah

The normal period via above 3 channels usually takes 2-3 years (except if you have inside/tip top connection) at Amanah Raya.

SABM Kicks off

January 20th, 2010

KUALA LUMPUR: Saya Anak Bangsa Malaysia (SABM) kicks off its 2010 Roadshow and Forum this Saturday.

“This comes at a time when the nation needs to be reminded most about the Malaysian Project,” said architect Ambrose Poh.

“We have cruised into uncharted territory, into a demented landscape where firebombs take precedence over mature dialogue,” added Poh, one of the initiators of SABM that was launched on Malaysia Day last year.

The Malaysian Project, simply put, is “One People, One Nation,” he said, quoting from the SABM Charter.

“There should be no divisive lines and artificial barriers.”

The first forum takes place at the Kuala Lumpur Selangor Chinese Assembly Hall here from noon to 7pm. Those wanting to attend must register; call (03) 2095-0435 or email events@sayaanakbangsamalaysia.net.

According to Poh, the forum will discuss the founding of the country and “why we are the way we are — divided,” adding wryly, “here, mirrors may be of help.”

The forum speakers and topics are: The founding of the nation: The truth (activist Fahmi Reza and lawyer Art Harun); Human Beings, all born free and equal (lawyer Jahaberdeen Mohd Yunoos and Rev Sivin Kit); Nation in Distress? Did we let it happen? (lawyer Haris Ibrahim), and This is my home. I care. I want to make it better (pensioner Jayanath Appudurai).

“We will talk about power and control. Not at the ethers of political office, but at the commons where you and I, the rakyat (people), dwell,” said Poh.

After the Klang Valley, the SABM Roadshow and Forum will head on to Ipoh (February), Kuching and Kota Kinabalu (March) followed by the other states.

Good or Bad, hard to say!!!….

January 20th, 2010

I would like to share this great story with everyone……..

Once upon a time, there was a king. The king liked one of his followers very much because he was very wise and always gave
very useful advice. Therefore the king took him along wherever he went. One day, the king was bitten by a dog, the finger was
injured and the wound was getting worse. He asked the follower if that was a bad sign. The follower said, Good or bad, hard to say’.

In the end, the finger of the king was too bad that had to be cut. The king asked the follower again if that was a bad sign. Again, the follower
gave the same answer, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’. The king became very angry and sent the follower to prison.

One day, the king went hunting in the jungle. He got excited when he was on the chase of a deer. Deeper and deeper he went
inside the jungle. In the end he found himself lost in the jungle. To make thing worse, he got captured by the native people lived inside the jungle.

They wanted to sacrifice him to their god. But when they noticed that the king had one finger short, they released him
immediately as he was not a perfect man anymore and not suitable for sacrifice. The king managed to get back to his palace after all. And he finally
understood the follower’s wise quote, ‘Good or bad, hard to say’.

If he hadn’t lost one finger,he could have been killed by the native people. He ordered to release the follower, and apologized to
him. But to the king amaze, the follower was not mad at him at all. Instead, the follower said, ‘It wasn’t a bad thing that you locked
me up.’ Why? Because if the king hadn’t locked the follower up, he would have brought the follower along to the jungle. If the native found that the
king was not suitable, they would have used the follower.

Again, the quote ‘Good or bad, hard to say’ stands.

The moral of the story:
Everything that happens in this world, there is no absolute good or bad. Sometimes good things turned out to be bad things eventually, while bad
things become a gain. Whatever good things that happen to you, enjoy it, but don’t have to hold too tight to it, treat it as a surprise in your life.Whatever bad things that happen to you, don’t have to feel too sad or despair, in the end, it might not be a total bad thing after all.

If one can understand this, he or she will find life much easier.

I write this letter in response to Malaysiakini report “MB: Kuala Ketil Hindu cemetery issue settled  of the 23rd of Dec 2009 that the Kual Ketil Hindu Burial Ground Demolition by the PAS government is settled.

Let me quote from the MK report, “Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said the matter was settled after the government held discussions with family members and the cemetery committee. He said more than 100 graves had been relocated and work on the campus would continue and was expected to complete by 2012. The case is settled. We have also briefed the Hindu Sangam association and they understand,” he told reporters today. He said each family was given RM3,000 to relocate the grave of their loved one to a new site about four kilometres away.”

Now let me quote from a report I have just received from Kuala Ketil from the Pengerusi of the Kuala Ketil Tamilar Association, the organization that has been administering the Burial ground all along: “The Kedah Goverment has threatened the families that if they do not remove the tombs they would all be covered up and buried over by earth. Each of the families were given RM3000/= immediately upon removal. A total of 80 graves have been dug and the remains were buried in another existing grave yard. No new location has been offered as promised by the state government (9 acre). There are still about 90graves left and the concerned families have decided to stay put.”

It is obvious from this report that the Kedah MB is lying.  The problem is far from resolved. And the remains in the 80 graves have not been moved to a new site, they have only been moved to another pre-existing site. Shame on the PAS MB for lying and misleading the public.

Firstly ,the Kedah PAS government should stop trying to circumvent the wishes of the people by bringing in an organization which has never played a role in administering the burial ground, the Hindu Sangam, into the picture to help the PAS government usurp the rights of the poor Indians of Kual Ketil. This is outright treachery, manipulation and an anti democratic practice, the type of stuff that UMNO has been famous for, whom we ( including PAS) are striving to throw out.

Secondly, The Kedah State Government should stop using strong arm tactics saying that the burial grounds will be covered up and totally destroyed even if the people do not remove the tombs. This is the same nonsense that the DAP government did to the people of Kampung Buah Pala, bullying the people into submission. So, is this brand stuff for the Pakatan Rakyat Coalition. Is this what PR means in their recent Announcement in the CPF ““Pakatan rejects policies that allow for corruption and other financial crimes and abuse of power. In order to ensure sustainable growth, oppressive policies that had only enriched the few should be replaced with a policy that ensures that the poor are assisted regardless of race.” Or is this just another in a string of “unfulfillable” promises.

Thirdly, we would like to remind the MB that if the Kedah State Government or anyone else proceeds with the demolition of the Burial Ground they will be committing a crime under Section 297 of the Penal Code. Under this law, a person could be jailed for at least a year for trespassing, damaging and desecrating the burial places of any religion.

When are the people going to get to see some real democracy at work. We have not seen it under the BN for the last 52 years. Now in the last 2 years we are not seeing it in the PR controlled States either. If PR is serious about their CPF pronouncements, we insist that they immediately stop this bullying, manipulating and lying about the Batu Pekaka Hindu Burial Ground issue and sit down with the true representative organization, the Kual Ketil Tamilar Association and hammer out a mutually agreeable solution.

Failing which PR will be exposing their true nature.

November 25th, 2009

It has been two years since the Neo Democratic Revolution and uprising of the Malaysian Indians against the marginalized and systematic discrimination against them by the UMNO led Government.

Event No 1 -

A gathering of 18 HINDRAF supporters in front of KLCC between 9.00am- 4.00pm to observe a hunger strike representing the 18 point demands that was  submitted  to the UMNO led government in uplifting the Malaysian Indian community that has been systematically marginalized and discriminated by the government for the last 52 years.

( Update- Vaishnavi Waythamoorthy will be present to KLCC at 1pm and present roses to the 18 activist (Hunger Strikers) and she will accompany them to the Prime Minister’s Office at Putrajaya.

Vaishnavi will be attending the Prime Minister’s Department in Putra Jaya to hand over a letter from  HINDRAF Chairman  detailing the current and immediate problems of the Malaysian Indians in regards to the discrimination that they face in socio development backwardness of the Malaysian Indian society within the sphere of Malaysian community in regards to education, economics, business, police abuses, freedom of religious practice and other continued suppression on Article 5, 8, 10 & 13 of the constitution against the public more particularly against the Malaysian Indians.

Hindraf warns the Royal Malaysian Police not to interfere, disrupt and/or sabotage these peaceful gatherings which are organised in accordance to our basic rights enshrined under Article 10 of the Federal Constitution and which is very meaningful and significant to Malaysian Indians.

-resources from R.Shan, International Relations Coordinator, HINDRAF, New York-

There is a terrible decay occuring in our system. This decay shows itself up in so many ways. The latest situation which warrants this comment is about the increasing crime rate in the country. The crime situation that we see is really only the tip of the iceberg of our system. And the police are trying to blow that tip off every now and then with a spate of encounter killings. The ice below that tip just comes up afterwards every time and replaces the blown off tip without any effort. So, what has been achieved.

Hindraf is and has always been at the forefront of things. Our analysis of the social and political situation and the conclusions we come to are the same conclusions that the larger sections of our society come to, only later. Take the way we focused on UMNO as the main protagonist in the Malaysian political scene just before the 12GE – when everyone else was running scared of confronting the giant.  Everyone after that then jumped on the bandwagon in targeting UMNO..

Then after PR took over in four States, the conclusion that we came to, that there is really no substantial difference between PR and BN policies as far as the working people are concerned, was an early one, within a year of its taking over. Then we have others getting on to that band wagon now.  Yong Teck Lee, Jeffrey Kitingan from Sabah to name two significant personalities, and now even pro-PR political analysts are beginning to reluctantly admit it.

Uthayakumar has been saying for several years now that the Police are the ones really running this country. Najib tries to keep the people mollified with his histrionics while Musa Hassan manages the real power that runs the country. Take Hitler, take Saddam Hussein, now take the Myanmarese Junta . They are all just  raw versions of what is happening in Malaysia. The people have to realize this very soon. More and more people are coming to this awareness. But the racial angle to all this hubris makes it more difficult for all to see what is happening clearly.

In the last thirty days at least 10 suspects have been brutally killed by the police. In today’s Utusan the PDRM issued an explanation.  They say, the police had no choice. I say this is the usual police lie. They say the police did it in self defence. I say show me the police dead. They say that this kind of killing will teach other potential criminals a lesson. I say this does not make any sense as the crime rate has not gone down.  They say that if the police hesitated and the suspects shot back that could harm the bystanders. I say, so how many times have the suspects shot back and how many bystanders have been hurt? They say that if a policeman is killed they will not be sung as heroes. I say, if they were killed honorably, surely we will sing them as heroes. Not when they act worse than the criminals they are supposed to protect us from. Then they say why do we question these police actions for such questioning will hurt the morale of the police. I say the only thing that I know that will hurt the morale of the police is a reduction of their incomes. They do not care two hoots about all this questioning. They know they reign supreme..

You may in turn ask me – why am I standing up for these terrible criminals. Where is my sense of rectitude. Let me first say, that even if they are criminals, they are citizens of this country, only wayward citizens. They are victims of the system in more ways than one. Killing them off is no answer. What we need is a real problem solving approach. What we need is to understand the sources of this phenomenon of crime. As what the Malay elite keep repeating about the suicide bombing Islamic terrorists – we need to understand the root causes, we need to understand the root causes, they say. They ask why would anybody want to kill themselves by blowing themselves up. They keep repeating this in the media, in International Fora, everywhere. What we need is something similar here at home.

But that is far from happening here.

Most of the suspected criminals are Indians. This logic of looking for the root cause doesn’t apply here with the Indians in Malaysia. The Indian criminals and suspects are to be shot like dogs. They deserve no better. This is a way of hastening the process of self destruction of a community – a way of killing it off without trying. At the lower sections of Indian society this self destruct process is well under way. It is indeed gathering momentum – as evidenced by the many deteriorating social indicators. Now who is taking this up for a solution? Who will protest that nothing is being done?

Do we simply allow it to happen and beg and plead for a solution. Haven’t we done enough of that for the last half century. What has been the outcome, an acceleration of this deterioration –that’s all. That is all, that strategy can get. We have to change our tack now. We have to change strategy to really change this situation.

We need now a strong voice to change this state of affairs. And we need to demand it as a fundamental right, only we are asking it half a century late. If we want a real say in determining our destinies, and if our fundamental rights are to be guaranteed, then we have to fight to get it. We have to coalesce under one big umbrella to struggle for what is ours. We need to put in place a government that will give us all a say in determining our destinies. We have to learn how decadent this system really is from every single episode such as the recent encounter killings and equip ourselves to do the needful to bring about change, when the time comes. We have not to be taken in by the lies that the mass media carries. We are not to be taken in by the promises that politicians repeat every general election and every by election.

Hindraf/HRP offers that umbrella. How many of you can see this. How many of you are willing to subscribe to this. If we want change, we have to make it happen. It is not going to happen by itself. We, in Hindraf/HRP have signed up to lead change. If you want real change come join us. Only through uniting under an umbrella that truly represents the wishes of the Indian people can we hope to gain control over our destiny. The alternative scenario is a tragedy waiting to happen.

There is no other way.

BMW 535i sells for RM178,000 in the US

In the United States of America (a developed country which we are alsoaspiring to become by the year 2020) a 2009 model BMW 535i Sedan is selling for about USD50,367.00. This is only RM178,000 – about the price of a Toyota Camry 2.4L here in Malaysia . The same BMW sells in Malaysia for about RM450,000.

BMW 328i sells for RM155,000 in the US

The 2009 model BMW 328i 2 door Convertible sells for USD44,014 or RM155,369.00 in the US . In Malaysia the same car sells for over RM460,000. This is an untenable situation.

Audi A4 2.0T Cabriolet Convertible sells for RM142,000 in the US

The 2009 model Audi A4 2 Door 2.0T Cabriolet Convertible sells in the US for USD40,328.00 or RM142,357. In Malaysia the same car would sell for about RM265,000.

VW GTI 2.0T sells for RM85,000 in the US

In the US the 2009 model Volkswagen GTI 2.0T sells for USD 24,039 or RM85,000 only. In China the same car will cost around RM60,000 . Over here the same VW car sells for about RM200,000.

And the 2010 model Toyota Camry 2.4L sells in the US for USD 19,659.00 or RM69,396. In Malaysia the 2008 Toyota Camry 2.4L sells for RM170,000. Toyota Camry 2.4L, 2010 model. RM69,000 in the US

Car prices in Malaysia are about three times higher than the prices in the United States. We are a developing nation. Our land and labour costs are so much cheaper than the US . Why are our cars so expensive? It does not make any sense.

Here comes the prices from Indonesia.
The Toyota Altis sells in Indonesia for about RM46,000 . The same car sells here for around RM 112,000.
The Honda Jazz sells here for RM108,000 .. In Indonesia the Jazz sells for RM 36,000 .

We are paying the high car prices in the world to support the Proton and other locally made cars as well as support a mind boggling AP policy. 26 million Malaysians have to pay three times more for their cars just to support Proton and 120,000 people who are directly and indirectly involved in the motor sector in Malaysia and the AP holders.
