Oldest arts society celebrates 58th annual exhibition

The Penang Arts Society, the oldest arts society in the country, recently celebrated its 58th annual exhibition at the Dewan Sri Pinang in Penang.

“By organizing more such events, we hope that we can make Penang into a art tourism centre,” said Penang Town and Country Planning, Housing and Arts Exco Wong Hon Wai.

“We believe there are plenty of tourists out there who are interested in arts-related matters,” added Wong, who had earlier officiated the event at the Penang Arts Gallery.

Wong also believes that the vibrancy of the Penang arts society represents freedom of expression in the island state.

“The arts society in Penang is a very vibrant one, and they represent freedom of expression. They are expressing their views in the form of arts,” he added.
