Police believe they have crippled a gang that stole cars and sold its components through a website to a tune of RM60,000,since January, after arresting six suspects in two raids at Seri Kembangan last Monday.
Serdang police chief Supt Abd Razak Elias said the first suspect was arrested in a 4pm raid on a terrace house in Taman Puncak Jalil.
“During the first raid, we also seized an engine from a stolen car in Bukit Jelutong, as well as several other car components and the tools used by the suspect to cannibalize the vehicle,” he told reporters here today.
He said the suspect led police to another house in Bandar Saujana Putra, Jenjarom where two other men were arrested and car-theft tools and stolen car registration number plates were found.
At 5pm the same day, he said two more men and a women were also nabbed in front of the house.
“Their modus operandi was to steal a car and cannibalize the vehicle before posting the pictures of the car components on the website to attract prospective buyers for such parts,” he said.
With the arrest of the suspects, police also found four stolen cars, which had been cannibalized and left in several areas in Bukit Jalil, Seri Kembangan and Puchong.
