John Tan emerged victorious in the overall gross category in Asia Golfing Network (AGN) “Ong Mali” Golf Challenge played at Permaipura Golf & Country Club, Kedah on 28th January 2018.
The 5-handicapper delivered a score of 76 gross to walk home with a Challenge Trophy and a Cleveland Cart Golf Bag worth RM800.
“The golf course is challenging and features wide and narrow fairways, water in play on most holes and contoured greens. I am happy to have won the gross challenge trophy,” said Tan.
In Medal “A” the spot-light was on Mohd Anuar Bin Jaladudin (8) who shot a score of 39 stableford points to walk home with a trophy and a Cleveland Golf Bag.
“Permaipura is a lovely golf course. The first hole offers a scenic view of the Majestic Gunung Jerai as a backdrop. On its signature hole 7, there is a big tree in the center of fairway making it unique.
The fairways are planted with Greenless Park fairways and Bermuda Tifdwarf greens making the course challenging to the most seasoned golfers,” said Anuar.
Meanwhile, Azman Awang (8) and Kiew Siew Wei (13) both carded identical scores of 38 stableford points for second and third placing respectively.
In Medal “B” Mohd Alwi (16) rolled in a score of 37 stableford points to emerge as the champion. He took home a Trophy and a Cleveland Golf Bag. Wesley Chieng (18) came in second with 37 stableford points while Mustakimi Melan (15) shot 36 stableford points for third placing.
As the name suggests “Ong Mali,” Ang Pow packets were drawn in the beginning of the prize presentation ceremony to award the first three lucky draw winners. Each participation walked home with attractive Srixon prizes and lucky draws as big smiles were seen on their faces. And for their goodies, they received an Adidas t-shirts and a Srixon Soft feel golf ball (1 tube) each.
In the morning after registration from 7am till 8am a unique novelty called “AGN Putting Challenge” was held in aid of charity. Each golfer who took part contributed RM20 and given three golf balls to putt. Unfortunately there was no winner to take home the RM500 cash prize. “I think the idea is excellent as it created some excitement in the morning,” said Azman bin Awang, Sales & Marketing Manager of Permaipura Golf & Country Club.
The tournament’s objective was to promote golf tourism and at the same time build camaraderie among amateur golfers and to promote AGN services as the market leader in golf green fee service provider. The tournament attracted a total of 60 participants.
A big thank you to Mr Yap Hun Heng, the General Manager of Permaipura Golf & Country Club and his team for giving full support to Asia Golfing Network and making the event memorable and successful. And not forgetting our event partners, Srixon and adidas.
