Joey, Yi Kai win Face of Asia-Pacific 2018 model search

KUALA LUMPUR – Joey Yeung from Malaysia and Syu Yi Kai from Taiwan were announced as the winners of the ‘Face of Asia-Pacific 2018’ in the respective female and male group of the regional model search competition.

Joey Yeung, standing a good 174 cm (5’ 8.5”) and Syu Yi Kai, at 184 cm (6’ 0.44”) tall faced-off against other finalists from Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and host Malaysia in a gruelling challenge at the grand finale held at Mega Star Arena in Kuala Lumpur on 13 April.

“I used to be a very shy and timid person at a very young age but I’ve always dreamt abut shining on the stage as a supermodel. I never thought that I would have come this far. This platform has truly transformed my life,” Joey said in her bio.

She was earlier awarded the female winner of Face of Malaysia 2018 title the same evening. The male winner of Face of Malaysia 2018 went to Jack Goh.

The 2018 Face of Asia-Pacific Model Search is organised by Malaysian supermodel Amber Chia jointly with Korea Model Association and Plan 7 Production.

Two winners (one female and one male) from each of the countries were chosen as the new Face star model based on the judging panel’s overall score.

All the eight winners, including Joey Yeung and Syu Yi Kai, will represent their respective countries and travel to Seoul, South Korea to compete with other finalists from 25 Asian countries for the international grand finals of Face of Asia 2018 – New Star Model Contest at the 13th 2018 Asia Model Festival Awards (AMFA) set to be held on May 5.

“The Face of Asia-Pacific aims to look for the next Face of Asia that embodies not just the supermodel quality but also possesses the talent and passion to make the entertainment spotlight.

“In today’s digital age, the contestants must also be able to kick up a storm on social media networks, as well as possessing the natural flair to own the centre of attraction at public events.” said Amber Chia.

The Face of Asia 2017 title was won by Jesiey Giam from Malaysia, the first time ever a Malaysian has won the coveted title.

Amber Chia added, “This is the first time we are organising a regional finals of Face of Asia-Pacific in 2018 with 24 finalists who came from four countries, including Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and host Malaysia. Next year, we expect this contingency to extend beyond the current four countries to other Asia-Pacific countries such as Australia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Cambodia and Philippines.”

The finals event kick-started with the introduction catwalk runway round with each country represented by six finalists (three females and three males). This was followed by swimsuit and evening gown portion.

Three subsidiary awards were presented to the winners by the representatives of the category’s sponsors. Pair Mercedes Romero from Hong Kong won the Face of K-Pop title, while Peggy Heng from Singapore bagged the Face of Gifto by Uplive and Frost Yaw from Malaysia was named Face of Oracle.

Top celebrities of Malaysia were also honoured for the most recognisable faces in the country. Five celebrity star awards were given out to the top celebrities known for their prowess and accomplishments in the field of acting, singing, hosting, blogging and social media.

The 2018 Celebrity Star Award winners were awarded to actress/singer Ruby Yap, singer Priscilla Abby, dancer Dennis Yin, blogger Joyce Kirsten Wong and actress/singer Fatin Afeefa.

The evening also saw Celebrity Star Award winners Ruby Yap, Priscilla Abby and Fatin Afeefa enthralling the audience with a showcase of lively song and dance performance.
