Former Selayang council president charged with corruption

Former Selayang Municipal Council president Bakaruddin Othman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to using the council’s funds to renovate his own residence, nine years ago.

Former Selayang Municipal Council president Bakaruddin Othman pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to using the council’s funds to renovate his own residence, nine years ago.

Bakaruddin, 57, who is currently Federal Territories and Urban Wellbeing deputy secretary-general (Planning and Development), is alleged to have abused his position to approve RM26,500 for renovation work of his own residence at address No 14413 Jalan Laksamana 9, Kg Laksamana, Batu Caves Selangor. 

He is alleged to have participated in the  council’s meeting on Oct 27, 2001 that approved the allocation for the renovation despite having a pecuniary interest in the matter.

Judge Asmadi Hussin set bail at RM8,000 in one surety and April 4 for re-mention.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission chief prosecutor Abdul Razak Musa appeared for the prosecution while the accused was unrepresented.
