Rumah Mesra Rakyat gets 35,000 applications

Syarikat Perumahan Negara Berhad (SPNB) has received more than 35,000 applications for houses under the Rumah Mesra Rakyat
(RMR) or People-Friendly Housing programme, SPNB managing director Dr Kamarul Rashdan Salleh, said yesterday.
He said SPNB would build the houses in phases depending on the allocation of funds from the federal government.

“All the applications have to undergo screening, interviews and site visits,” he told reporters at an RMR programme in the Tambun parliamentary constituency at the Tambun Umno Division office, here.

He said many of the applicants were fishermen, farmers and livestock breeders from Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang.

Since SPNB was established in 2000, it has built 15,079 houses under the RMR programme at a cost of RM875 million, he said, adding that this year, it planned to build 2,500 houses at a cost of RM200 million.
