A journey through time IV.

Tonight was certainly a night to remember, as A Journey Through Time IV – Asia’s grandest and finest luxury watch and jewellery showcase – culminated in a spectacular conclusion at Starhill Gallery.

The 10-day long glamorous event, which featured an impressive collection of over 100 distinguished brands, saw attendance from various watch connoisseurs and jewellery aficionados from all around the globe. Fully endorsed and supported by the Ministry of Tourism, the glitzy showcase also featured exquisite timepieces that were brought in exclusively for A Journey Through Time IV.

This year, A Journey Through Time IV featured exclusive collections from breakthrough brands such as Louis Moinet, Speake-Marin and Zeitwinkel, as well as other exquisite names such as Armand Nicolet, Carrera Y Carrera, Franc Villa, Maurice Lacroix, Mouawad, as well as Van Cleef & Arpels.

It is, therefore, only apt to host an event such as A Journey Through Time for the fourth year running right here at Starhill Gallery – which is renowned as being the pinnacle of all luxury retailing,” said Tan Sri Dato’ (Dr) Francis Yeoh, Managing Director of YTL Corporation, who attended this prestigious affair together with Dato’ Sri Dr Ng Yen Yen, the Minister of Tourism, as well as other renowned watch experts, principals and retailers.

The night also celebrated the very best of these timepieces with the “Watch of the Year Awards 2010” for seven categories. These seven talented winners were presented with a specially commissioned trophy by Abdul Multhalib Musa, who was commissioned to create a major outdoor sculpture for the Beijing Olympics in China in 2008. In addition, he has also designed trophies for A Journey Through Time for the past two years.

These winners were judged by experts of the watch fraternity – Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh himself, as well as Dr Bernard Cheong, Su Jia Xian, Professor Massimiliano Landi, Dr Masanori Kondo, Thierry Gasquez and Jean-François Meyer.

Tan Sri (Dr) Francis Yeoh is a passionate watch collector and aficionado, while Dr Bernard Cheong is one of the most well-known and influential collectors in the world after having been in the horology industry for 30 years.

A young and prodigious freelance watch journalist, Su Jia Xian has made his mark as being respected by watchmakers, dealers and collectors alike worldwide; and Dr Massimilano Landi contributes with his experience in “game/competition theory” as assistant professor of Economics at the esteemed Singapore Management University.

A senior associate professor of Economics at the International Christian University in Tokyo, Dr Masanori Kondo brings his passion and expertise from an invaluable Japanese perspective; while Thierry Gasquez is the president of Passion Watchmaking in France and Jean François Meyer is from the Federation of the Swiss Watch Industry.

Amidst the splendid watches and jewellery, guests were also taken on a culinary adventure by Michelin star chef, Chef Florent Passard, who created a special menu to mark the magnificent night.

Australian songstress, Delta Goodrem, also wowed the crowd by delivering a breathtaking performance.

A Journey Through Time IV ran from 2 to 11 December (10 am to 10 pm) at the Starhill Gallery with daily fashion shows and performances.
