The Putra light rail transit (LRT) service, which was delayed since 4.30pm today after the system was struck by lightning, was resumed about two hours later.

A spokesman of the Control Centre of Rangkaian Pengangkutan Integrasi Deras Sdn Bhd (RapidKL) said the lightning resulted in the train failing to stop at four subway stations namely Kampung Baru, Dang Wangi, KLCC and Masjid Jamek.

“The incident was due to the technical disturbance caused by the heavy rain and the service system being struck by lightning,” he said when contacted by Bernama, here today.

He said repair works were immediately carried out and the train service returned to normal at about 6pm.

The incident occurred during the peak hour resulting in many LRT users being stranded at the stations concerned.
