The Himpunan Hijau, Penang chapter was marred by about 50 umno thugs who came to Penang Esplanade with the intention of disrupting an otherwise peaceful gathering. At its peak, the crowd swell to about 500 but the thugs continue to harass the organisers and even the innocent bikers were not spared.  These thugs are a disgrace to the nation, displaying despicable attitude and lowly in mentality.
The Chief Minister of Penang, Lim Guan Eng arrive in the midst of the commotion, sporting a green short sleeve shirt in support of Himpunan Hijau. During his speech, the CM spoke against Lynas with the crowd supporting and cheering away in unison.  He also took to task, the underhand tactic employed by umno to employ thugs to scare and disperse the gathering. Police were seen in the vicinity but they just stood there, making no effort to stop or control those intimidating thugs.
