The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) has given Terengganu, T-Team and Sabah the green light to play night matches at the Sultan Ismail Nasiruddin Shah Stadium in Kuala Terengganu and Likas Stadium in Kota Kinabalu respectively.
FAM Vice President Hamidin Mohd Amin said both stadiums, inspected on Dec 29 and Dec 31, had met the minimum requirement of 800 lux for floodlights at their respective stadiums.
Terengganu and T-Team share the same stadium.
Hamidin who is also the FAM Competitions Committee chairman said four stadiums – Shah Alam Stadium, Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium, Darul Makmur Stadium and Tan Sri Hassan Yunus Larkin Stadium in Johor – were undergoing upgrading works.
He said Felda United FC and Kuala Lumpur would use the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka for their home matches as the Kuala Lumpur Football Stadium in Cheras was undergoing repairs.
Meanwhile, speaking of national striker Safee Sali whose place in the national squad remains uncertain due to his presence in the FIFA suspended Indonesian Super League (ISL), Hamidin said the striker must be cautious and wise in making a decision so that his future as a player would not be jeopardized.
He added that there was a possibility that FIFA would denounce the ISL and ban Pelita Jaya FC for playing in the banned league.
“We do not want to miss his services for the national team because he is a valuable striker. If he is willing, we can bring him back to Malaysia because his contract with Pelita Jaya expires on Jan 31.
“The registration dateline was Dec 8 but he can still play for any team when the registration window opens in April,” he told reporters after chairing a competition meeting for the Charity Shield at the National Stadium in Bukit Jalil yesterday.
