Floods have caused 218 people from 51 families to be evacuated to relief centres in Maran.
According to Maran MP, Datuk Ismail Abd Muttalib, their homes in Kampung Paya Chedong and Kampung Luit were inundated under 0.5 to 1.5 metres of water as of noon today, following heavy rain overnight.
He told this to reporters when met at one of two relief centres sheltering the victims here.
He added that all the victims were being cared for by the Welfare Department. Meanwhile, Deputy, Information Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Maglin Dennis D’Cruz, who launched the National Library Malaysia’s 1Malaysia Information Literacy Module at Sekolah Kebangsaan Padang Luit today, also spent some time visiting flood victims sheltered at the Kampung Luit public hall.
In Temerloh, the Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism Ministry’s Pahang director Mohd Aruwan Ab Aziz said wholesalers, retailers, traders and supermarket in the state had been given permission to hold 30 per cent more stock in view of the flood season in the east coast so as to ensure there would be no shortage of essential items.
