A man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of impersonating a doctor before a police personnel last week.

A man pleaded not guilty in the Magistrate’s Court today to a charge of impersonating a doctor before a police personnel last week.

Chew Poh Keong, 32, of Batu Caves, was alleged to have introduced himself as Dr Cheah Poh Keong of Kuala Lumpur Hospital to Khairul Izlan Ibrahim.

He allegedly committed the offence in front of a bank in Dang Wangi, at 12.35 pm on Dec 15, 2011.

The charge, under Section 170 of the Penal Code, carries a maximum jail sentence of two years or fine, or both, upon conviction.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Noor Mawarni Abd Halim asked the court to set bail at RM5,000 with one surety.

Magistrate Siti Shakirah Mohtarudin allowed bail of RM2,500 with one surety and set Jan 20 next year for mention.

Chew was represented by counsel Khairul Amin Abdullah.
