The Housing and Local Government Ministry will introduce guidelines on the setting up of childcare centres and kindergartens.
Minister Chor Chee Heung expected the guidelines to be ready for implementation after March next year.
A draft of the guidelines had been tabled to the Cabinet and was approved, he said, adding that he would table the guidelines to the National Council on Local Government for approval and implementation by the local authorities.
“These guidelines will ensure childcare centres and kindergartens are set up according to the stipulated criteria.
“First of all, those who want to open a childcare centre or kindergarten will have to be registered with the Education Ministry and then to get approval from the local authorities to do so,” he told reporters after presenting the Alor Setar Member of Parliament’s special allocation to KEMAS at the Alor Setar MCA office today.
In another development, Chor, who is also Alor Setar Member of Parliament, said he was saddened by an incident where four firemen from the Kuala Muda Fire and Rescue station were injured when the fire-engine they were travelling in crashed into a resident’s house at Jalan Pasir Gebu, Penaga, Kepala Batas two days ago.
He said he was informed that the fire-engine driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to skid and crash into the house, while trying to avoid hitting a motorcycle.
“I have given them some aid so that they can continue to carry out their duties although some people do not really appreciate what they do, except only during times of disaster, like a fire or an accident, ” he added.
