Esplande candlelight vigil for Waytha Moorthy’s return

PENANG – More than 30 Hindraf activists and supporters held a candlelight vigil in Esplande to protest the action of the UMNO led government in continuing to withhold the Hindraf chairperson’s passport.

PENANG – On 20th July, 2012 more than 30 Hindraf Makkal Sakthi activists and supporters held a candlelight vigil in Esplande (Padang Kota Lama) to protest the action of the UMNO led government in continuing to withhold Hindraf chairperson’s passport in spite of various calls by Hindraf and various NGOs and individuals to issue him with a passport to return to Malaysia.

Hindraf held candlelight vigil simultaneously in Kedah, Penang, Perak, Selangor, Negeri Sembilan and Johor.

This candle light vigil will be Hindraf’s last collective request to the Malaysian government to return Waytha Moorthy’s passport.

The group gathered at 8.00pm holding candles and banner demanding home ministry to return Waytha Moorthy’s passport as it is his rights as a Malaysian citizen.

Hindraf Makkal Sakthi Penang coordinator Kalayselvam, speaking to reporters at the scene, said if the government wants to be transparent and play by the rules then it should return the passport and allow Waytha Moorthy to return and to charge him with whatever they have on their minds.

Otherwise Hindraf must conclude that they are fearful of his return to Malaysia and would like to keep him out with any and every measure including the refusal to grant him his passport.

The group dispersed peacefully about an hour later.
