It is not often that a state representative from a ruling party advises his constituent to sue a state government agency.

But today, Dato Keramat assemblyperson Jagdeep Singh Deo did just that.

Jagdeep advised Vijiyehletchimi Rajasekaran,26, widow of the late Ganesan Vadiveloo, who died on Oct 15 due to a freak accident, to sue the Penang Municipal Council (MPPP).

Ganesan died when an MPPP street lampost fell and struck him while he was riding his motorcycle along Jalan Patani at about 6.30pm.

Jagdeep, a lawyer by profession, said he is in the midst of collecting evidence related to the accident.

“Once we have finished collecting the evidence, we will advice Madam Vijiyehletchimi on any legal recourse open to her,” he said after presenting a RM3,000 cheque to the family.

“This includes the possibility of taking the MPPP to court,” he added.

Jagdeep called upon MPPP to maintain all the street lamps properly so that such an “sad and unfortunate” incident will not reoccur.

“It is unfortunate that Madam Vijiyehletchimi has now become a widow and has to tend to her 3 children aged 8, 5 and 1 alone” Jagdeep said.

Jagdeep calls on the public to donate to Vijiyehletchimi by sending contributions to his special assisant, Sanjay Raphael.
