New Postal Service Bill to be tabled in Parliament

The Ministry of Information, Communication and Culture will table the Postal Services Bill 2011 to replace
the Postal Services Act 1999 at the next Parliament sitting, said its Deputy Minister, Joseph Salang.

The new act would ensure quality postal services and promote the growth of an effective, competitive and innovative postal industry, he told reporters after opening the 15th Biennial Delegates Conference of the Union of Postal Clerical Workers (UPCW), Peninsular Malaysia, here today.

“We want to boost the confidence of consumers on postal services and to ensure the safety of the workers, goods and postal network in line with the changing times,” he said.

On the withdrawal of the video ‘Undilah’ by musician Pete Teo, Salang said the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) had the right to withdraw the video as long as it did not have the approval of the Film
Censorship Board.

The video, with a running time of 4.38 minutes, was launched in conjunction with the Malaysia Day last week and called on the people to come out to cast their votes.
