IGP: Report on police handling of Bersih 2.0 sent to home minister

A complete report on the allegations against the police handling of the Bersih 2.0 gathering in Kuala Lumpur on July 9 has
been submitted to Home Minister Hishammuddin Hussein, Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar said yesterday.

The report was compiled from the investigations conducted by six committees, he said, adding that he was satisfied with it.

The minister would table the report to the Cabinet, he told reporters after a visit to flood-hit areas in Perlis.

Asked whether the report would be made public, he said that would depend on the Cabinet.

On the promotion of policemen in Perlis, Ismail said 52 policemen with the rank of lance corporal were promoted to corporal with immediate effect while six with the rank of sergeant major were elevated to sub-inspector.

He said the numbers might be small but percentage-wise the figure was big for Perlis.

Ismail said he was happy with the measures taken by the police in the face of floods in the state since Sunday but added that the quality of service could be improved, such as the use of small boats for patrol during floods.
