Malaysia will bring home its 220 students in Syria after Sept 15, once they have sat for their exams, Foreign Minister Anifah Aman said.
He said the students were currently preparing for the exams which will start middle of this month.
“We will decide on the best and fastest route to bring them home, via Doha or Dubai, maybe even by commercial flights,” he said after the ministry’s Aidilfitri open house at Wisma Putra, last night.
Anifah said the ministry has been coordinating the matter with several agencies including the National Security Council following the continued riots and demonstrations in the country.
“I have been informed that 40 per cent of them want to stay on as they did not feel threatened; the choice is theirs but we will advise them to leave if the situation warrants it,” he said.
Anifah also said Wisma Putra will assist the students to obtain exit visas to enable them to return to Syria once the atmosphere calms down.
