MPSJ sets up disability committee

The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) full-board meeting today endorsed the establishment of a committee for the disabled, and a commissioner of buildings (COB) committee.

The Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) full-board meeting today endorsed the establishment of a committee for the disabled, and a commissioner of buildings (COB) committee.

The former consists of councillor, Loka Ng Sai Kai, disability activists, and MPSJ president, Asmawi, as chairman to formulate disabled-friendly policies.

The committee was setup under a statewide initiative announced in March to improve or provide disability facilities in the state.

The COB committee, on the other hand, is expanded from the existing COB department, which used to be manned by only one official.

“This is to better monitor some 965 high-rise homes in the municipality, of which 294 have setup their JMB (joint management bodies); 236 are managed by management; 38 by agents; 338 by developers and others,” said Asmawi.

The committee’s portfolio include among others the problematic Joint Management Board (JMB); the disposal and collection of bulk garbage; sinking fund; conflicts among management; residents and developer and management fees arrears.

Meanwhile, MPSJ will start applying a development charge on developers or landowners who plan to change a land’s density, floor space or convert land use.

Asmawi said the developer or landowner will have to pay 30 percent of its land appreciation value to the council.

The council also extended the RM10 flat rate campaign for traffic compounds to Sept 30 so that more people can clear their traffic compounds.
