Out of the 200,000 fresh chicken supplied in the state every day, the purity of 60,000 of these chicken is doubtful, according to the Johor Religious Department (JAJ).
This is due to the fact that some of the operators of the slaughter houses do not adhere to the standards set by the department in terms of the slaughtering procedure and halal status.
In fact, some of the birds are slaughtered in an open space where dogs and other animals can also enter.
“Currently, hundreds of traders are supplying about 60,000 fresh chicken to the local market daily where the purity of these chicken are doubtful,” said the Assistant Director of the Halal Research Unit of JAJ, Samsudin Paimi.
He disclosed this to reporters after a raid on two animal slaughtering and processing premises at Jalan Kampung Sawah and Jalan Pontian-Johor Bahru, Pontian early today.
