The Ops Sikap campaign to be implemented in conjunction with the Hari Raya Aidilfitri festive season will be improvised to help reduce accidents and enable a smooth ride for those returning home to celebrate the festival with their loved ones.
Inspector General of Police Ismail Omar said the new initiatives would be announced by his deputy Khalid Abu Bakar in three days.
“Changes will include issuing summons on the spot to traffic offenders, especially for over speeding. This will serve as a warning and reminder to other motorists,” he said after giving over Hari Raya goodies to police personnel who will be on duty in Bukit Aman during Hari Raya.
“We need to enhance safety features during Ops Sikap because statistics show an increase in accidents during festive seasons, be it Hari Raya, Chinese New Year or Deepavali,” he said.
The Ops Sikap will start on Aug 22.
