Members of the 6 Gurdwaras (Sikh Temples) in Johor thronged the Grand Straits Garden ballroom on the April 6, 2013 for a colourful afternoon of songs and dance in conjunction with the harvest festival or Vasakhi, in Johor Bahru.
The Malaysian Sikh Union (MSU) Johor was registered on April 18, 1988 and has since been carrying out charitable activities for the less fortunate.
In the true spirit of 1Malaysia, all races were invited to celebrate this New Year with vegetarian food and entertainment highlighting the Punjabi culture.
Assorted Sikh dishes such as dahl tarka, aloo gobi, channa masala, bhindi masala and fulka were served to the guests.
MSU advisor DAto Mokkam Singh, in his opening speech , thanked the Johor government for helping with the RM150,000 financial contribution to the construction of the Gurdwara temple in Jalan Trus, Johor Bahru several years ago.
