‘Voice’ told man to steal motorcycle

“There was a voice telling me to take the motorcycle,” the man charged with stealing a motorcycle at Payang Market, told the Magistrate Court today.

“There was a voice telling me to take the motorcycle,” the man charged with stealing a motorcycle at Payang Market, told the Magistrate Court today.

Believed to be mentally ill, Noor Azlan Mohd, 43, from Kampung Gelugor Haji Tahir, when pleading guilty to the charge, also said that he did not know why he stole the motorcycle.

“I didn’t know why I took it, I’m a crazy man,” he said nonchalantly, bringing laughter from the public gallery.

The laughter continued when Magistrate Nor Azizah Mohd Yusof said: “Crazy people don’t speak like that.”

Noor Azlan was charged with stealing a Yamaha motorcycle belonging to Nor Anita M. Nor, 26, at Payang Market about 4.45pm on July 21.

The charge under Section 379 A of the Penal Code carries a jail term of up to seven years and a fine.

When Nor Azizah asked him of his current residential address and whether his family were present at the court, Noor Azlan said:  “I live in Kuala Lumpur, Dungun, Marang, all there, I don’t know.”

Having heard the answer, Nor Azizah said she would not put Noor Azlan’s guilty plea on the record, but he should be sent to Permai Hospital in Tampoi, Johor, for psychiatric assessment.

Aug 24 was fixed for remention of the case.
