Drumming at Tugu Negara

As part of their healthy living initiative, some music loving individuals have now embraced to playing music their own way without the help of any artists- through the Tugu Drum Circle.

Symbolically, this group of drummers gather at the National Monument (Tugu Negara) in Kuala Lumpur on every Sunday,  and would give rhythm to the park by playing and enjoying themselves for a good three hours.

“When I grew up in Malaysia during the 60s, we did not have the chance for such polarization, so is the time to come together,” said one of leading members Paul Lau.

Citizen journalist Lee-Jean met Paul after the Drum Circle drove their way down south to participate in the 8th Johor Bahru Arts Festival.

“If the community around you is healthy, we feel healthy. If the community is sick, we too feel sick,” he added, while revealing that the drum circle was first started in 2002.
