Appeal to JB city mayor at the official launch of the Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk’s arch

Johor Bahru City Mayor, Tuan Haji Ismail bin Karim officiated the launch of the Arch at Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk on December 14, 2013

Lim Ik Kim, President of the Johor Bahru Tiong Hua Association in his opening speech at the official launch of the Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk’s Arch, appealed to the Johor Bahru City Mayor, Tuan Haji Ismail bin Karim on 3 issues.

The first issue is on the encroachment of other peddlers into the Heritage Walk while the second is the issue of bikers zooming into the Walk. These actions at times disturbed or disrupted the pre-arranged performances. The third issue touched on the presence of drug addicts at the vicinity. Lim urged the authorities for more significant measures on the safety, cleanliness and the control of the peddlers’ encroachment.

Tan Hiok Nee Heritage Walk started operation in 2009 and has now developed into a popular destination for locals and tourists. Early this year, the City Council has endorsed plans to construct two arches in Jalan Tan Hiok Nee in recognition of its significance as a heritage site.
