RM47mil for Islamic studies for Selangor students

Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) contributed RM47 mil in aid of education development in Selangor, including sums going towards teachers’ salaries.

SHAH ALAM – Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) handed contribution amounting to RM47 mil in aid of education development in Selangor on Tuesday. The contribution is meant also to include salaries of religious teachers in the state for a year.

Of the amount, the biggest chunk goes towards teachers’ salaries, a total of RM26 mil. The sum of RM12.5 mil is to go towards scholarships for studies in Egypt, Jordan and Morocco. Finally, RM4.05 mil is to towards the textbook loan schemes for Sekolah Rendah Agama (SRA).

The cheque was handed over by Selangor Menteri Beasar Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim during the Teachers’ Day celebration in honour of teachers from Selangor Islamic Religious Department (Jais) here. Also present were Jais director Marzuki Hussin and LZS chief executive officer Mohamed Izam Mohamed Yusof.

At the function, Mohd Dawam Dollah @ Mohd Anuar and Mistijah Nordin were named the Kafa (Kelas Al-Quran and Fardu Ain) progamme’s Tokoh Guru 2011 (Teachers of the Year) in the men’s and women’s categories respectively.
