Haze: Air quality at unhealthy levels

Air quality in most places in the country as of 11am today was moderate except for Port Klang which recorded unhealthy
air quality.

According to the Department of Environment (Doe), Port Klang registered an Air Pollutant Index (API) of 104, compared with 97 as at 5pm yesterday.

An API reading of between 0 and 50 is good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very dirty), and 300 and above (dangerous).

The Klang Valley and several other areas were reported to be hazy due to open burning, including in Sumatera.

Meanwhile, 28 areas recorded moderate API namely Banting (96), Kuala Selangor (85), Petaling Jaya (82), Shah Alam (86), Nilai (88), Batu Muda, Kuala Lumpur (84), Cheras (76), Putrajaya (71), Port Dickson (82), Seremban (74), Melaka Historical City (81) and Bukit Rambai (85).

Other areas that recorded moderate API were Muar (78), Larkin Lama (54), Pasir Gudang (52), Balok Baru (61), Indera Mahkota (54), Jerantut (57), Tanjung Malim (66), Keningau (54), Kota Kinabalu (57), Labuan (55), Bintulu (72), Limbang (53), Miri (52), Samarahan (56), Sibu (61) and Tanah Merah (52).

Meanwhile areas that recorded clean API included Kota Tinggi (46), Jalan Tasek, Ipoh (35), Seri Manjung (37), Kangar (33), Perai (37), Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) (25), Sandakan (35), Alor Setar (34), Tawau (42), Kuching (43) and Kemaman (40).
