SWM steps in to assist Taman Ungku Tun Aminah residents

The previous waste collection contractor has failed to provide proper and adequate garbage trucks and manpower to carry out its waste collection responsibility and SWM will stand in to help out temporary.

The waste collection services in Taman Ungku Tun Aminah (TUTA), Skudai will be taken over by SWM Environment Sdn. Bhd. (SWM) on expiry of the existing contract.

The earlier waste collection contractor has been awarded the contract to collect waste in Zone 2 of TUTA.

Zone 2 areas cover Jalan Persira, Jalan Nakhoda, Jalan Pendekar, Jalan Perkasa, Jalan Temenggong and the shops situated along Jalan Hulubalang.

According to SWM general manager, Lim Cheng Seng, the previous waste collection contractor has failed to provide proper and adequate garbage trucks and manpower to carry out its waste collection responsibility and SWM will stand in to help out temporary.

He said, SWM will temporary help out in providing more garbage trucks and other forms of assistance depending on the prevailing requirements.

“Instead on implementing an earlier temporary action plan, SWM will now have to revise it to a long term action plan by way of taking over the waste collection responsibility with effect from May 16”, said Lim who was speaking to reporters in a press conference here.

Currently, Syarikat KJE Holding is responsible to manage the waste collection in Zone 1 whereas Fajar Sidiq has been taking care of low-cost flats zone.

To improve on the cleanliness level in TUTA, a group of three contractors have been appointed namely, Delima Padu Enterprise who will be covering Jalan Nakhoda zone while Perniagaan Usahasama Amna covering zone 1 and covering the TUTA low cost flats and Jalan Perkasa will be given to NRS Enterprise.

This group of three contractors will have a manpower strength of fifty-seven where twelve will be grasscutters, twenty-four road sweepers, twelve drain cleaners, six for bulk waste, one overall in charge and assisted by two supervisors.
