Highway plan threatens the state park

The reserve forest is home to many endangered species such as gibbons, tapirs, and leopards.

Several environmental organizations and the general public are set to voice out to the Ampang Jaya Municipal Counil (MPAJ) their disagreement towards a new stretch of highway that will cut through the Selangor state’s forest reserve areas.

The KL Outer Ring Road (KLORR) is drafted to have a new route that will link the townships of Cheras and Rawang, but will plough through the forest reserve areas in Hulu Kelang and Ampang.

The new route plan drafted in late last year as an attempt to ease the traffic around the area.

However, the Klang Gates Quartz Ridge and the forests at Ampang have been listed as Environmentally Sensitive Areas.

The areas are also key water catchment forests, and are a key water catchment source for the entire Klang Valley, and the highway could threaten the quality of water that is channeled to the Klang Gates Reservoir.

The reserve forest is home to many endangered species such as gibbons, tapirs, and leopards.

The hearing will take place on October 21, where those in opposition of this project will get the chance to voice out their opinions to the municipal council.

Some of the individuals who are campaigning against the highway are also attempting to write a memo to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak, and the Kuala Lumpur City Mayor.
