The police investigating the three bombings in the vicinity of the Jalan Duta Court Complex on Monday believe that the homemade explosives were detonated by timers Kuala Lumpur police chief Mohmad Salleh said the police were awaiting verification from experts and chemists to determine the type and class of explosives used.
The police found explosion debris like plastic cones, ball bearings, clocks and batteries at the scene of the blasts, he said in a statement posted on Facebook yesterday.
“The police have collected evidence from the scene and will send them for analysis. We are also looking for other witnesses who can help in the investigation into the bombings,” he added.
Five people were injured when homemade explosives went off at three locations near the court complex yesterday as about 4,500 people gathered there in rally over the verdict on parliamentary opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim sodomy trial.
The victims were injured by ball bearings or impact from the explosions, said Mohmad, adding that a motorcycle was badly damaged while damage to several other vehicles was minimal.
He said the police were looking for clues to track down those responsible behind the bombings and public cooperation was welcomed.
The case is investigated under Section 6 of the Explosives Act 1957 (Act 2007) which carries imprisonment up to seven years or a fine up to RM10,000 or both, if convicted.
