Johor Sultan drives last train out of Tanjong Pagar

After 80 years of faithful service, the curtains came down on Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad’s (KTMB) Tanjung Pagar
railway station late last night.

It was a poignant scene at the station’s platforms when the Sultan of Johor, Sultan Ibrahim Sultan Iskandar himself drove out the last train from the station at 11pm, marking the end of a long chapter in KTMB’s history.

Eyes were moist in the people gathered as it was a very sentimental moment. It was the southernmost station in KTMB’s railway network.

At the stroke of midnight tonight, the station, which has been operation since 1932, ceased all operations and from Friday (July 1), KTMB’s train service from Singapore to the peninsula will operate from the Woodlands railway station.

Thousands of people and a horde of media personnel were at the station to witness the historic occasion.
