Klang Valley commuters can look forward to shorter travel times and increased train frequencies on public transport rail lines, according to Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Measures implemented by Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd aim to restore public confidence in the rapid transit system, addressing recent service disruptions and congestion issues during peak hours.

Prasarana Malaysia Berhad and Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd are taking swift action to rectify service disruption incidents on the Light Rapid Transit (LRT). By implementing more frequent train services, congestion issues, particularly during peak hours, will be reduced significantly. This step not only ensures smoother operations but also enhances overall reliability for commuters.

Moreover, Prasarana is expediting the purchase of 19 sets of four-coach trains, replacing the current two-car LRT trains in use since 1998. The delivery of these new trains, expected to commence in August, will further improve capacity and provide a more comfortable travel experience for passengers.

Enhancements to MRT and Monorail lines

The improvement efforts extend beyond the LRT system. Loke highlighted the ongoing wheel replacement program on the Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Kajang Line, which aims to be completed by August 2023. This program will restore train frequencies to four minutes during peak hours, enhancing efficiency and reducing waiting times for passengers.

Furthermore, comprehensive component overhaul works are underway for all 50 trains on the Ampang Line since October last year.

This extensive undertaking is anticipated to be completed by December 2027, ensuring reliable services and minimizing disruptions for commuters.

The monorail line is also set to witness improvements, with the construction of two new monorail trains and the restoration of one existing monorail train. Expected to be completed by March 2025, these enhancements will enable train frequencies of five minutes during peak hours, contributing to a smoother and more convenient travel experience for monorail passengers.

Addressing delays on KTM Komuter Line

KTM Komuter and MRT service restoration underway

In a separate announcement, KTM Komuter has informed commuters of delays between Sg Buloh and Kepong stations. Due to track upgrading works, only a single track will be operational until June 25. This will result in delays ranging from five to 30 minutes. Commuters are advised to plan their journeys accordingly and expect crowded trains during this period.

Transport Minister Anthony Loke emphasized that the delays experienced in the Klang Valley Komuter service are temporary and attributed to ongoing construction and upgrading activities as part of the Klang Valley Double Track project (KVDT1).

Once Phase One of the project is fully completed, these service issues will be resolved, improving train frequencies and reducing waiting times at stations.

With the implementation of these restoration initiatives and ongoing improvements, the Klang Valley’s public transportation system is poised to offer smoother, more reliable, and more efficient travel for commuters in the near future.
