Kuala Penyu’s Ferry

Kuala Penyu’s Ferry

Kuala Penyu’s ferry operates from 530am to 930pm everyday throughout the year for the last 20 years. Ismail Untong who works as operator of the ferry since 1980 thinks that Kuala Penyu’s ferry is  the only one left in Sabah.

The ferry operates 16 hours a day minus a 2-hour break.

It takes 10 minutes to cross the river. When asked a passenger  if there is a plan for a bridge, a guy riding a bicycle was only too happy to tell me that the bridge is under construction some 2 km away from where we were. The irony is why it takes so long – 47years – to have this ferry replaced by a bridge.
