Communications and Multimedia Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa officially launched the logo and theme for this year’s National Day celebration at Angkasapuri yesterday.
The theme for this year’s National Day celebration is ‘Keluarga Malaysia Teguh Bersama’.
The logo which is based on the concept of internet coverage represents the development of communications infrastructure and digitalisation for the convenience of the people.
The logo consists of three bands, coloured blue, yellow and red, representing Keluarga Malaysia, consisting of different races and backgrounds living in harmony.
The alternating red dots on each band is said to represent the openness to celebrate diversity and differences for the sake of mutual progress.
Meanwhile, the red dot at the bottom stands for identity and the patriotic spirit, forming a foundation for a sovereign and visionary nation.
The WIFI symbol
Wi-Fi stands for wireless fidelity. It is a wireless network technology that allows devices like smartphones, tablets, and computers to be connected to the Internet without wires.
Erik Born, a doctoral candidate at the University of California, wrote that nothing says ‘wireless’ quite like this ubiquitous icon: three curved lines sitting atop a little point.
“As the waves are sent out, they become larger and larger, reaching not only one intended receiver but any number of unknown receivers who might together form an audience,” he wrote on his Medium page.
Omnipresence, overcoming borders, and universal accessibility — these common impressions of wireless connectivity are what the wireless icon makes visible.
A visible and far-reaching celebration
In the launch speech, Tan Sri Annuar Musa reiterated the importance of the involvement of all layers of the society in the tremendous success of this year’s National Day celebration.
“As such, the launch is held earlier this year so that it can be understood and instilled among Keluarga Malaysia (Malaysian Family) members,” said Annuar during his speech.
The historic celebration should not remain a national event and should reach every ‘Keluarga Malaysia’ in every community, said Annuar when met at the sidelines of the launch.
He also added that the media must play a role in spreading awareness of the message behind the logo and this year’s themes and move the nation forward with the values carried by Keluarga Malaysia.
National Day, also known as Merdeka Day locally, is celebrated on the 31st of August and marks the 65th year of independence from British rule in 1957.
Another important date is the 16th of September for Malaysia Day, to celebrate the formation of Malaysia, which consists of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore, in 1963.
