Members of the public are advised to exercise their rights as consumers by reporting to the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism if traders increase their prices excessively prior to Christmas on Dec 25.

The deputy director of the Ministry’s Kuala Lumpur branch, Mohamad Mokhtar Yeop said monitoring of price increases would continue to be carried out based on the trend where traders frequently increased prices exorbitantly just before the festive season.

“If there are traders who increase prices of goods excessively, members of the public can report the matter to the ministry, and action will be taken under the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011,” he told the media after the Dialogue Session, “Price Increases and Their Effects on Society”, organised by the Information Department, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur, yesterday.

Earlier, he participated as a panelist in the dialogue session together with Utusan Malaysia’s assistant editor-in-chief 1, Datuk Zaini Hassan while Bernama’s deputy editor-in-chief Datuk Zulkefli Salleh was the moderator.
