While tsunami and earthquake stricken Japan is mourning and Libya is being bombarded by UN forces in support of the civil unrest against their leader. Our Malaysian News media chooses to headline a typical coffee shop gossip for speculation and sensation.
Thanks to the privileged few journalist who previewed the so called ‘Top Opposition Leader caught in tape’ video and reported it, Malaysians are now embroiled in an ordinary affair of a man and a woman having sex whose privacy have been infringed. There should be a law enacted in Parliament on infringement of privacy of an individual (if there is none).
The spa where the incident occurred should be booked by law for installing secret cameras to capture discreet or non discreet meetings. When you pay for privacy, you should be accorded privacy. I remember a case where a guy had installed a camera in his ex-girlfriends apartment and was arrested and sentenced. The same law should apply to all whether they are a seven star hotel or no star hotel. Privacy must be respected and should not by using modern electronic means to tarnish a person’s character. Have CCTV by all means to safeguard your grounds and property and for security surveillance, but not to record honeymoon couples having their first night. We need our privacy to shit and pee without hidden camera catching us in the act, even if they are a crew member of ‘candid camera’.
The CCTV installed in Hotel Malaya was a great help in Madam Altantuya Shaariibuu’s murder case, it shed a lot of details on the accused. It is very unfortunate that to date the perpetrators who installed the spy camera in a Batu Pahat hotel room, which resulted in the downfall and immediate resignation of a high political figure has not been solved. Gentleman Dr. Chua Soi Lek, former Malaysian health minister took it in stride and have since risen back to lead the second largest political party in Malaysia. The incident occurred in a four-star hotel room which is an invasion of his privacy as a guest and has yet to be accounted for by the hotel.
Human beings are human beings, that is the law of nature. Don’t drag a person’s private life into the political scenario just to propagate immorality thus disqualifying the person’s ability to serve the people.
I seriously doubt that Dato Sri Najib’s administration, which has been sincerely rectifying most of the people’s grievances would stoop so low as to implicated an individual for political gain. I also feel that there was no reason for Dato Seri Anwar to jump the gun to say it was not him. The press release only said husband and wife must resign but did not mention their ethnicity. The only husband and wife politic couples I know are Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and YAB Lim Guan Eng (CM of Penang) and YB Betty Chew (Adun Kota Laksamana, Melaka)
All 4 are well respected in their constituency and state (eventhough Dato’ Seri Dr. Wan Azizah Wan Ismail is no longer an MP). I hope the mysterious Datuk T sheds some light as to what his political agenda is. The Rakyat are just too busy to play his political game. I hope he says what he has to say direct to us and let us decide whom to vote for in next general election. And to the entire journalist whom we entrusted to provide news without fear, favour or bias and had enjoyed watching Datuk T’s video presentation, thanks for not sharing what you know and keeping us in suspense.
The PKR Bayan Baru division election which has been termed as the mother of all PKR election battle cause of being the only constituency in the whole of Malaysia where all 3 state assemblyman and parliament seat were won by PKR candidates in the 2008 general election.
The division election will be held on Saturday 25-09-2010 at Dewan Jubilee, Sungai Dua, Penang where 5,495 members will cast their votes to select their new leader.
Who is the contender and who is the challenger in the Division was answered by Mr. M. Nyana Segaran the candidate for the post of the division chairman at his press conference held on 18/09/2010 at Hotel Equatorial, Penang where he launched his manifesto and announced his team mates for the division committee.
The PKR Bayan Baru Division was headed by YB Dato Seri Zaharin, who is also the MP for the Bayan Baru constituency, who left PKR to become a BN friendly MP last year. The Division since then has been headed by Mr. Tan Seng Keat as acting Chairman who has declined the offer to contest for the Chairman post due to his work commitment.
Nyana Segaran said that “by virtue of being the current Vice Chairman, I offer myself as a candidate for the chairman post which is being left void by the current division leaders”. He added that he is challenged by YB Sim Tze Tzin the assemblyman for Pantai Jerjak who is an ordinary member of the PKR Bayan Baru Division.
YB Sim Tze Tzin who filed nomination on September 4th together with his team named “Reformis team” only managed to nominate 10 candidates for the post of committee members short of 5 of the available 15 position, 3 of whom are his own PAs. Nyana Segaran however, filed a full team including for the Youth and Women section.
Nyana Segaran said that his team comprises of equal numbers of Malays, Indians and Chinese as per the division membership with En. Sallehhuddin, the current secretary as deputy chairman and Mr. Swee Tuck Wah, a founder member of Penang PKR as the vice-chairman and amongst the reason stated in his manifesto to contest is “We want the members to collectively take control and determine the division’s direction and not by individuals to safeguard their own personal interest”.
He further added that appropriate to their manifesto that his team will now onwards be known as “Team Rakyat” cause his challenger YB Sim has choose to segregate and be known as “Team Reformis”, though personally he does not like this segregation as he feels that all PKR members are reformist as per Dato Seri Anuar Ibrahim’s call for “Reformasi”.
Quoting Dato Seri Anuar Ibrahim “..anak Melayu anak saya, anak Cina anak saya, anak India anak saya, anak Iban anak saya, anak Kadazan anak saya…” (“.. a Malay child is my child, a Chinese child is my child, an Indian child is my child, an Iban child is my child, a Kadazan child is my child..”), Nyana Segaran said that he subscribes to the same principle and will serve all communities as his own as a Malaysian.
His immediately goal however is to support and ensure that all PKR candidates in the forthcoming election in the Bayan Baru constituency secure their seats and serve the community be it YB Sim, YB Abdul Malik ,YB Raveentharan and whoever is nominated for the Bayan Baru Parliament seat .
It was quite amasing to read claims that Dato Seri S. Samy Vellu has sacked more than 100,000 MIC members during his tenure as MIC President. I recently met with a former MIC Penang city councilor and present PKR Bayan Baru Vice Chairman M.Nyana Segaran who was expelled from the party two years ago. He found out about his expulsion from THR Raaga Broadcast while he was driving and till today has not received any official letter from the party.
He had attended an official ISA forum organized by the Penang chief ministers office which was open to the public. Being active in politics, he was spotted and asked to give his opinion on ISA. That was enough for him to get the wrath of Samy, within two days after that he was shocked to read in the papers that he had been sacked from the party confirming what he heard from THR radio. He tried to contact Samy to explain the circumstance but to no avail. He said ‘there is no democracy in MIC, a member is not even given a chance to defend himself’ and added that he should have at least be given a show cause letter before such a drastic action was taken against him.
Nyana Segaran says he does not regret Samy’s action but thanked him for the sack as it had opened the door for him to serve the community from a better platform. One that is truly democratic and transparent. Nyana Segaran joined PKR together with 3500 MIC members plus 1500 new members in 2008 totaling 5000 people.
When asked about the GAS movement, he said ‘why step on a dead snake, let Samy go when he wants to, the longer he stays the better for Pakatan Rakyat, anyway you can’t blow a horn on a deaf man’s ear’.’.
