Hiew: Investigate prison officer over youth assault in Keningau, Sabah

Kota Kinabalu MP has raised his concern over uniformed personnel assaulting civilians, in relation to the recent case of youth beating at Keningau, Sabah.

In the incident, Ben Cheah Ping Xen, 23, sustained multiple injuries all over his body as the result of the assault which was captured on closed-circuit TV (CCTV) install in the shop.

” There were also cases of innocent victims were hurt and even being shot. In the strict sense, our security forces should be in its top discipline and fully abide to the law there is, because they are the one who are there to upkeep the law and enforcement.” Hiew said.

Hiew called for a thorough investigation into the assault and ensure justice to be carried out properly. He will also bring up the matter to Parliament during the next sitting on 13^th of June.

Meanwhile, Gerakan Sabah Liaison Chairman, Gordon Leong said, Gerakan Sabah was appalled and sad that in this modern and civilized society, there are still those who preferred to take matters into their own hands.

“No one should take the law into their own hands or see themselves as to be above the law, more so for law enforcement officers who are supposed to protect the public,” he asserted.

He further stressed that the alleged assault incident which involved a senior government official must be viewed at seriously as it is now of the concern of the general public.

While retired policemen Robert Linggi, 65, condemned such act by a highly ranking government officer, for just over a small matter, which could be, settle amicably.

Robert, who is the former Deputy Chairman Council of Elders of Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Sabah, stressed that the concern government officer should be suspended from his job before taken to court for justice.

” This is also a lesson to everyone that no one is above the law. Do not ever take the law into your own hands,” he added.

As of now, no comment has been heard from Keningau Member of Parliament Tan Sri Pairin Kitingan as well as the people’s representative in the constituency, over the incident.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Prison Department has issued a statement stating that action has been taken against the officer by suspending and transfered him from Henry Gurney School.
