The people in Pontian district have been told to be prepared for the district impending upgraded status to a municipal council soon.
The district has fulfilled the criteria in achieving a municipal status, said district councillor, Tan Chin Hock.
Since last year, the district has achieved the set criteria in which the district managed to collect RM20 million of revenue and reaching a population of 150,000, said Tan in a press conference after the district fourth full council meeting here.
Also present at the press conference were the district council President, Mohamad Karim, the secretary, Mohd Farid Hassan and Engineer Ahmad Kamal.
Application to upgrade the district status has been submitted to the state government for due consideration, said Tan.
He urged the people to pay more attention to the cleanliness of the district at all time.
He said that additional street lighting are in placed and some one hundred CCTVs sponsored by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority(Irda) have been installed at identified hotspots within the district including Kukup, Air Baloi and the Kukup Jetty area.
