Non-Muslim students are also eligible to study at the Insaniah University College (KUIN) if they meet the stipulated requirements,
Kedah Menteri Besar Azizan Abdul Razak said.
He said the non-Muslim students would, however, have to also take certain compulsory subjects on Islam which the Muslim students were also required to.
Azizan said he believed that the non-Muslims were also keen to pursue studies at KUIN which was now offering 40 courses in various fields, including medicine, multimedia and engineering.
“For the medical programme, we will receive our first batch of more than 50 students in July or September,” he told reporters after surveying the construction of the KUIN campus at Kuala Ketil here yesterday.
Meanwhile, Bina Darulaman Berhad (BDB) chairman, Mohd Saad Endut, said work on the first phase of the KUIN campus project, covering almost 130 hectares, which started in September 2009 was scheduled for completion in February 2013.
“The first phase is now 23 per cent complete, more than one per cent ahead of schedule,” he added.
The first phase of the project involved, among others, a chancellery building, four lecture blocks, a library and a hall.
