Home ministry gives RM 1.5 million to JB city council

Home Ministry has allocated RM1.5 million for Johor Bahru city council to enhance the city’s safety and security infrastructures.

The allocation will immediately goes into providing proper lighting, safe pedestrian walkways and installing safety concave mirrors in identified crime prone areas.

All these safety and security infrastructures work will be carried out in May, 2011, said Mayor Mohd Jaffar Awang, and is expected to be completed in two months time.

The identified crime prone areas are the CBD area, Tampoi, Larkin, Taman Pelangi, Johor Jaya and Taman Megah Ria, he added.

Mayor Mohd Jaffar was speaking to reporters after the fourth monthly city council meeting here.

Speaking on another matter, he said, the number of dengue fever cases for last year stood at 1324 with two death as compared to 786 cases in 2009.

“Even though the situation is manageable but he reminded city dwellers not to be complacent as there are indications that the situation can get worse,” said the mayor.

The city council are implementing  on going measures to control the situation like house-to-house  inspections, carrying out fogging in abandoned buildings, open areas and construction sites, he said.
