The Chicken Rice Shop (TCRS) raised RM30,000 for Children’s Wish Society of Malaysia (CWS) in a walk-cum-treasure hunt held on May 31, 2015 at the Lake Gardens, Kuala Lumpur, known officially as Perdana Botanical Gardens, in conjunction with the brand’s 15th anniversary.

It was a memorable fun day out for hundreds of family and friends who gathered for the Chick-A-Thon and carnival which was held to raise funds and awareness in support of the not-for-profit organisation that helps to fulfill the wishes of terminally-ill children in the country.

“The Chick-A-Thon gives us a great opportunity to bring families together as part of our anniversary celebrations which is all about giving back,” said TCRS Restaurants CEO Wong Kah Lin.

TCRS topped up with a contribution of RM20,000 to the RM10,000 collected from registration fee of participants to raise a total amount to RM30,000.

“We wanted to support a worthy cause and CWS was an easy choice because they do wonderful work in bringing happiness to children with serious illness by looking for ways to make their wishes a reality. With our larger contribution to the Society, we hope to make more wishes come true,” added Wong.

The day started with aerobics work-out to get everyone warmed up and properly stretched for the 2.5km walk-cum-treasure hunt, which was flagged off by TCRS ambassador and celebrity chef Dato’ Ismail Ahmad.

The usually quiet Lake Gardens was turned into a hive of activity as participants excitedly set off through the scenic routes in the landscaped lakes and parks, as they searched for images of little yellow chicks that were hidden along the green trail and answered to a list of treasure hunt questions.

CWS Malaysia vice president Teoh Teik Hoong said the organisation was proud of its involvement with the Chick-A-Thon.

“Our partnership helps raise much-needed funds for the society’s efforts to fulfill wishes of children stricken with terminal illnesses in the country. Every wish fulfilled is another smile from these ailing children,” Teoh said.

There were a variety of booths with games and activities such as fancy dress and eating contests as well as food and beverages offered by event sponsors including Farm’s Best, Permanis, Wall’s and Milo.
