Jailed and fined RM15,000 for bribery

The briber was charged under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009 and if found guilty can be jailed up to 20 years and a fine five times the bribed amount or RM10,000 whichever is higher.

 

Johor Bahru Session Court Judge, Mohd Nasir Nordin, sentenced Poo Chee Chow, 33, a scrap metal business owner to a day jail and fined RM15,000 or in lieu six months jail for attempting to give a RM2,000 bribe to a police offer after he pleaded guilty to the charge.

The alleged offence occurred at 11.45am on March 18 in Jalan Mengkibol, Kluang.

Poo was charged under Section 17(b) of the MACC Act 2009 and if  found guilty can be jailed up to 20 years and a fine five times the bribed amount or RM10,000 whichever is higher.

MACC prosecuting officer, Norzieaina Mohd Khalib prosecuted the case.

The accused, Poo Chee Chow was unrepresented and he later paid the fine.
