The Southern Kelantan Development Authority (Kesedar) has set aside an annual allocation of RM1 million specifically to ensure educational excellence in over 300 schools in remote areas in Kelantan.
Kesedar general manager Mohd Arshad Ismail said the allocation included the cost of RM15 for each student to attend educational excellence tuition classes.
He said this was in line with the government’s aspiration to see more students from the rural areas to excel and pursue tertiary education. In Southern Kelantan alone, there were 300 schools in Gua Musang, Kuala Krai and part of Tanah Merah, he said.
Mohd Arshad also hoped that the students in Southern Kelantan, who would sit for their Ujian Pencapaian Sekolah Rendah (UPSR), Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) examinations this year, would be as successful as the students in urban areas, if not better.
