Stamping out commission agents among Bumiputeras especially in the political, administration or business sectors is a challenge because they are being controlled by certain groups, Federal Territories and Urban Well-being Minister Raja Nong Chik Raja Zainal Abidin said.
The situation was made worse as there were some Bumiputeras who took the shortcuts by becoming commission agents without forking out capital or taking risks.
“We don’t want to build an economy, especially a Bumiputera economy, that is based on commission agents. There are some who have no access to product capital so they take the easy way by becoming agents,” he told a news conference here today.
Earlier, Raja Nong Chik declared open the Bumiputera Manufacturers and Services Industry Association of Malaysia Annual General Meeting, here today.
Commenting on Teraju, an agency launched by Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak on Feb 8 to strengthen the Bumiputera development agenda, Raja Nong Chik said the agency was on the right track to produce true Bumiputera entrepreneurs.
“Let them be small in number (entrepreneurs) as long as they are true,” he said.
