Saora Industries Sdn Bhd installed a solar-powered water purification system in Kampong Batang Maro, Batang Lupar, Sarawak to supply clean and safe water for the people in rural areas. It was in collaboration with Malaysian University Students Volunteer Mission (YSS-ASEAN) to Sarawak. The event was officiated by YB Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, Minister of Women, Family and Community Development in Batang Maro, Batang Lupar om the 3 March 2016.
According to Soara Industries founder and chief executive officer (CEO) Ganesh Muren, the system could provide solutions for a number of specific problems faced in rural areas such as Kampong Batang Maro. This is the first of many installations that will be carried out in the rural areas in Sarawak particularly.
“Clean water is a basic necessity and we have a simple mission: to give more people in the world clean water to drink. While this is trivial quest in a developed country, without governmental support or social infrastructure, it can be incredibly difficult. Water charity aims to help communities develop sustainable, ecological, simple, easy-to-maintain systems to get clean drinking water to everyone who needs it,” he explained during the ceremony in Batang Maro.
Through the humanitarian mission, volunteers helped residents through community service projects such as the installation and construction of clean water filter in the village, construction of gates, repairing walkways to mosque, repairing plumbing system, repairing toilets and baths as well as transfer and site preparation of school’s water tank. Volunteers also organized a variety of activities for the residents and school students during the mission which went on until the 7 March 2016.
