Kuching High School today received a RM1.9 million grant from the Education Ministry which was presented by Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.
The cheque presentation ceremony was held at the Kuching International Airport with the school represented by its board members led by Kuek Eng Mong before Muhyiddin left for Kuala Lumpur.
Met by reporters afterwards, Kuek said it was the second grant from the ministry for building a new school block.
He said the first was for RM1.5 million which was given in 2009 out of an overall grant amounting to RM3.5 million.
According to him, this second grant was to cover the cost of phase two ofthe project.
“We are thankful to the ministry in assisting us in this project which will benefit the students and staff,” he said.
The school has an enrolment of 1,650 students and academic and support staff of 95.
Muhyiddin, who is also Education Minister, was on a one visit to Sarawak to check on the Barisan Nasional’s preparations for the 10th Sarawak state elections, which will be held on April 16.
