A lorry driver was sentenced to the gallows by the High Court here today after he was found guilty of trafficking 8.25kg of ketamin, three years ago.
Judge Mohd Sofian Abd Razak made the decision after the accused See Kek Chuan, 49, failed to raise reasonable doubts in the prosecution’s case.
In his judgement, Mohd Sufian said See’s defence was merely a denial and that the accused was clearly in control and in possession of the bag containing the drugs.
See, in his defence earlier, had said that the bag belonged to his friend.
See, a father of three, committed the offence at the Sunway Resort & Spa Hotel lobby at Persiaran Lagoon, Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya, at 3.45pm on Aug 3, 2008.
He was charged under Section 39B (1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries the mandatory death penalty upon conviction.
The prosecution called six witnesses throughout the trial, and the defence, one.
Deputy public prosecutor Khairul Fikrie Ahmad Zubaid prosecuted while Seewas represented by lawyer J.Kuldeep Kumar.
A technician was sentenced to death by the High Court in Shah Alam after he was found guilty of trafficking 574.78gm of syabuat the KL International Airport (KILA) three years ago.
Judge Noor Azian Shaari made the decision after the Yeoh Thian Hock, 41,failed to established a reasonable doubt against the prosecution’s case.
Yeoh was found to be in control and in possession of the drugs during the inspection at Customs’ inspection counter at the arrival hall of the main terminal building, KLIA at 8.40am on Nov 13, 2008.
