PETALING JAYA – IFTC International Academy of Fashion & Design students brought to life their designs for the IFTC Young Star Fashion Runway Show

IFTC International Academy of Fashion & Design students brought to life their designs for the IFTC Young Star Fashion Runway Show at Paradigm Mall, Petaling Jaya on June 4, 2016.

The show, emceed by Dato’ Kee Hua Chee, was an opportunity for students to showcase their talent and innovative clothing. It saw models walked down the runway strutting in the students’ creations in front of a large audience.

All In all, a total of 39 student-designed garments ranging from evening wear to bridal gowns, to casual dress and Muslimah fashion were shown off.

Yui Yoshioka, a 20-year-old student from Okayama, Japan was among the talented students who saw her own creations come to life on the catwalk.

“Fashion is my passion. I am really excited to be able to show off my designs that I am proud of and I hope to become a great fashion designer one day,” said Yui who is looking forward to continue her studies in fashion design at Central Saint Martins, London after graduation.

The second year IFTC fashion design student said in designing her piece, she used all the skills that she had learned and achieved at the academy so far this year. The whole process from sketching and designing to constructing garment took her about three weeks.

First-year student Siti Aminah Binti Sharuddin, 19, from Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur said her passion for design meant lots of hard work and endless hours she put into her creations.

“I am excited to see my designs on the catwalk. This is my third runway show so far and my design has become better through experience and learning,” said Aminah who speaks fluent Mandarin, being a former student of SJK (C) Kuen Cheng and Confucian Private Secondary School.

The young and talented fashion design student said she will pursue her dream to become a famous Malaysian fashion designer one day and plans to continue her study at Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in New York upon her graduation.

IFTC principal and founder Annie Wong said the student project runway show was to inspire young designers and to provide a platform to showcase their talent and creativity on the garments they had created.

“I am so proud of my students who worked really hard to produce such amazingly beautiful outfits.

“We focus solely on the expertise in fashion studies and I am very proud of the success in seeing IFTC’s achievement today where many of our talented students have gone on to great success in the industry,” said Wong.

Wong said ITFC has produced many successful and renowned fashion talents and icons locally and abroad. Past alumni include a number of famous names in fashion like Bernard Chandran, Amir Luqman, Alvin Tay and Amelia Hassan. They bear testament to the top-notch fashion education provided at IFTC.

IFTC graduates have managed to carve out successful brands and established a place for themselves in the industry. A number of successful graduates have achieved success as fashion entrepreneurs setting up businesses at shopping malls in Kuala Lumpur’s Golden Triangle such as Pavilion KL, Lot 10 and Fahrenheit.

IFTC was established 41 years ago (in 1975) by founder and director Annie Wong. The IFTC name is recognized internationally as an expert in fashion education. It currently has over 100 students, including international students studying fashion design at the campus in Bandar Sunway, Petaling Jaya.

IFTC’s affiliation with the Paris American Academy (PAA) since 1991 allows its students to obtain a prestigious French degree in fashion in one academic year instead of two years.
