The Association for the Promotion of Human Rights (PROHAM) today called on the Government to ratify the International Convention on Elimination of Racial Discrimination in conjunction with the United Nations International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.
PROHAM Secretary Datuk Michael Yeoh in a statement here said Malaysia, as a progressive and liberal nation, should ratify the convention.
“Ratification of this Convention will be consistent with the 1 Malaysia philosophy and we urge the Government to take steps to ratify this Convention in the same way that Malaysia has agreed to accede to the Rome Statue,” he said.
He also said that PROHAM has appointed former Chief Justice and Chairman of the Royal Commission on Police Tun Dzaiddin Abdullah as a Honorary Member.
